Rudy's Restaurant, one of Hackensack's oldest, is offering a $30 takeout dinner for five -- with curbside service.

The "Five for $30" offer includes eggplant parmigiana, baked ziti, Chicken of the Day with potatoes, salad, dressing, bread and butter, but not tax.

At lunch with a friend today, I ordered fresh fillet of sole with salad and vegetables for $11.95.

The restaurant was offering a special of sole francese or almondine, but the waiter said both were made with butter, so I asked for my fish simply broiled with a wedge of lemon on the side.

The vegetables didn't look as if they were freshly made, but all were crunchy, not overcooked.

My friend ordered an $8.95 "express lunch," thinly sliced roast beef with mashed potatoes.

An old gas stove is used for storage.

The main dining room was empty during our lunch, except for a couple at another table.

But an adjacent room was being used by members of the Hackensack Rotary Club, which meets at Rudy's every Thursday.
