Monday is try Jamaican food day in Hackensack

On Mondays, Boomerang's Caribbean Soul Food Restaurant at 136 Main St. in Hackensack offers $5 dinners, including jerk chicken and curry goat, below.

The lack of foot traffic on Hackensack's Main Street hurts restaurants and candidates for public office alike, especially today, the day before an important City Council election.

Wondee's Fine Thai Food & Noodles, Choripan Rodizio and others close on Mondays.

But Boomerang's Caribbean Soul Food Restaurant, 136 Main St., attracts customers by discounting such Jamaican specialties as curry goat and jerk chicken.

On "Customer Appreciation Day," those and 8 other Jamaican dishes are $5, including rice and peas, and cabbage.

Today, I picked up two Curry Goat Dinners and one Whiting Dinner.

The fish was beautifully fried and greaseless.

Earlier, I enjoyed a bowl of wonderful lentil soup at The Main Dish, 152 Main St.

To drum up business on Tuesdays, Choripan at 72 Main St. is offering all-you-can-eat Argentinian-style wood-grilled meat for $15 per person, compared to $30 for adults and $20 for kids after 3:30 p.m.
